Yes, I'm the grumpy one. Quite frankly, there are enough half-wits in modern paganism to keep me in 'grumpy witch' material for ever, especially since I expanded my resolution not to suffer fools gladly to include not suffering them at all, but for the sake of good reading I'll try to keep my ramblings here more positive than negative (no promises).....
By way of basic 'starting info', you can call me an Anglo Saxon Pagan, an Anglo Saxon Heathen, a Northern Tradition Pagan (apparently that one's very trendy with The Half-wits at the moment), a Traditional Witch (ditto), or anything else which doesn't confuse me with Wicca (modern or otherwise). I've also got a passing interest in Druidry, and you'll probably find some Buddhist derivation here eventually - that doesn't mean I'm a Buddhist (I'm not, and see above), just that I find some aspects and practices interesting and sometimes helpful.
Oh, and I'm also one of the two curators of the main Toadbone site, which you can find at www.toadbone.com
Gods of particular interest include Woden and Thunar (also known as Odin and Thor in Norse and Germanic Heathenism), but my main interest is in the land, and I'm an unreconstructed animist in this respect. Generally, I'm a polytheist, I don't believe that the Gods I worship are Jungian archetypes (or any other kind of archetype) or 'energies' (whatever that means), neither do I believe in any kind of duo-theistic ‘God and Goddess’ nonsense. My Gods have histories, lore, and (most importantly) they still speak, so I’m open to UPG, which I regard as being for my own direction and assistance, and not as binding on all followers of those Gods from this time onwards for evermore.
In the future I’m hoping to undertake some formal postgraduate study on some aspect of Anglo Saxon studies, with reference to religious belief and practice, although since successive UK Governments contrived to crash the economy and make postgraduate study the province of the independently wealthy, that will probably not happen for a while. In the meantime, I plan to do some self-directed independent study starting in 2013.
So there it is. If you’re interested in the old Gods of England, or in general witchcraft practice, and don’t believe yourself to be a the Queen (or King) of the Faeries, b) a 5000-year-old Druid master, or a graduate of a fictional university (all of whom I’ve already met, thanks), drop me a line, and let’s get to know one another!
