This is so much a set of rules, rather a series of guidelines on how to interact on this forum. While they're not hard and fast, the admin will pull you up if you display evidence of not having understood these guidelines.
1. When you have nothing to add, don't post. Making replies to posts that have no relevance or nothing to add to the debate is pointless and annoying. Example:
NewbieWitch: Hey, I wondered if anyone could tell me anything about Anglo-Saxon burial rites and how the barrows could be used as points to communicate with the ancestors.
VagueWitch: Well I don't know anything about AS burials but you could Google it.
or
NewbieWitch: Hey, could anyone tell me something about Hallowing the Compass and if it's different from Casting a Circle?
IrrelevantWitch: Oh yes, Hallowing the Compass is a very interesting ritual. I often perform it.
Fobbing enquirers off to web searches or telling them something of no value adds nothing to the discussion and should be avoided. Such posts can and will be removed by the moderators.
2. Please discuss. This may seem like teaching your grandmother to suck eggs but it's surprising how few people appear to know how to discuss topics on forums. The discussion topics are just that; topics for discussion. This means that the original posts should be ideas, thoughts, questions, anything that encourages a response from other members and invites them to discuss. They should not be lists of information, personal experiences (unless there is a question or point to made), lessons, etc. Responses should also be lively and interesting, not one word answers or posts to URLs. Remember it's fine to disagree, but do so in a respectful way.
3. Avoid unnecessary copious negativity. If all your forum posts consist of noting but telling other members what they're doing is wrong, dismissing other members posts as 'rubbish' and otherwise complaining, moaning and whining, you won't make many friends here. We understand that everyone has a bad day and may feel like blowing off steam, but if your posts are nothing more than complaints you will be pulled up on it by the admin.
4. Don't moderate the other members. We have moderators for that and we think we do a good enough job. Telling a member that they can or cannot do something on the forum, remarking on their spelling or grammar, telling them to remove or edit a post or otherwise behaving in an authoritative manner won't be tolerated.
